Laundry renovations Sutherland Shire: replacing an existing laundry

Most laundries in the Shire are replacements rather than new rooms. The established housing across Miranda, Caringbah, Gymea, Kirrawee and Jannali was largely built with a trough, a shelf and nowhere to put anything, and that is the room Steve is usually asked to rebuild.

What gets replaced and what stays put

The machines stay where the plumbing is unless there is a reason to move them, so the cabinetry is planned around the existing waste and taps. A benchtop runs over the top of a front loader to give folding space, the trough is set into the run rather than standing alone, and the dead corner beside the door becomes a broom and vacuum cupboard. Benchtops are specified in natural stone, porcelain, timber, stainless steel or laminate: engineered stone has been banned nationally for manufacture, supply and installation since 1 July 2024, with importation prohibited from 1 January 2025.

Good sealing, sensible ventilation and quality hardware are what make a laundry last. HMR resists moisture; it does not make the room waterproof.
