Kitchen & Stone Benchtops In Sutherland

Kitchen & Stone Benchtops Experts

Custom kitchens, wardrobes and joinery for the Sutherland Shire - designed, built and installed with over 12 years of local experience

Sutherland Shire Cabinets designs and builds custom kitchens and supplies benchtops through compliant materials only, right across the Shire, from waterfront Sylvania and Gymea Bay homes to family renovations at Miranda, Caringbah and Kirrawee. We do not fabricate, supply, process or install engineered or reconstituted stone (the Caesarstone-type quartz product), because its manufacture, supply and installation were banned nationally from 1 July 2024 and importation from 1 January 2025 under the silicosis reforms. Instead we fit safe, modern benchtops in natural stone such as granite or marble (through licensed stonemasons), porcelain and sintered stone, solid timber, laminate or stainless steel. Kitchen carcasses use quality board, with HMR (moisture-resistant) board where they meet water. Every kitchen starts with a free measure and quote, and our own team installs.

Kitchen and benchtop options

A Shire kitchen can run from a straightforward family refresh to a full waterfront design, and we build to suit both. Layouts include galley, L-shaped, U-shaped and island kitchens, with the island a favourite in the open-plan waterfront homes at Sylvania Waters and Gymea Bay. For benchtops we work only with compliant materials: natural stone like granite and marble through licensed stonemasons, porcelain and sintered stone, solid timber, quality laminate and stainless steel. Doors can be laminate or melamine for value, timber veneer for warmth, or 2-pac polyurethane for a premium painted finish. We do not offer engineered or reconstituted stone at all, for the legal and health reasons set out below. Cabinetry, splashback coordination and internal fit-out are drawn together so the whole kitchen works as one.

How we build and install it

Kitchen carcasses are built from quality board, and where cabinetry meets water, under the sink, around the dishwasher and in the laundry run, we specify HMR (high moisture-resistant) board, which resists moisture better than standard board without being waterproof. Benchtops in natural stone are templated and fabricated by licensed stonemasons and installed to the cabinetry we build, while porcelain, timber, laminate and stainless options are matched to your budget and use. We do not fabricate, process or install engineered stone under any circumstances, in line with the national prohibition. Drawers and doors run on recognised soft-close hardware, the sort of quality runners and hinges Blum and Hettich are known for, so a busy family kitchen stays quiet and smooth. Our own team measures, builds in the workshop and installs on site, scribing to the walls of older Shire homes. Lead times run in weeks and depend on the size of the kitchen and the benchtop material chosen.

Why Shire homeowners choose us

With more than twelve years building kitchens across the Sutherland Shire, Steve Smith knows the difference between a compact Cronulla unit kitchen and a large open-plan design for a Sylvania waterfront home. We are fully insured with twenty million dollars in public liability, and every quote is fixed and itemised so there are no vague allowances. Working only with compliant benchtop materials means you get a safe, legal result and honest advice rather than a product that can no longer be installed. Because we are Shire-based, we measure, install and answer any warranty question locally. We stand behind our workmanship, with manufacturer warranties applying to hardware and materials.

What a kitchen and benchtop costs

Kitchen pricing depends on the size of the room, the cabinetry, the benchtop material, the hardware and the condition of the site, so treat any figure as a guide. Cabinetry with a laminate or timber benchtop is the most budget-friendly route, while natural stone and porcelain sit at the premium end because of the material and the licensed stonemason's fabrication. As a rough guide, a smaller family kitchen renovation often begins in the mid five figures, and a large waterfront kitchen with natural stone can run well beyond that. Removals, plumbing, electrical and splashback work by other trades are separate and vary by home. After a free measure at your Shire home we provide a fixed, itemised quote so you can see each element.

Custom kitchens versus flat-pack

Flat-pack kitchens from the IKEA stores at Tempe or Rhodes, around thirty to forty minutes north, can suit a simple, square room on a tight budget. The reality in much of the Shire is older, non-standard housing at Gymea, Jannali, Caringbah and Kirrawee, where walls are rarely square and ceilings and services sit where they sit. A made-to-measure kitchen is drawn to the exact space, so cabinetry fits wall to wall, benchtop joins land sensibly and appliances are planned in rather than squeezed around. You also get a real choice of compliant benchtop materials and finishes, not a fixed catalogue. And with local measure, build, install and warranty, there is no self-assembly and no separate installer to organise for the biggest room in the house.

What Our Kitchen & Stone Benchtops Customers Say About Us

The Process

3 Step Process For Your Kitchen & Stone Benchtops Needs

Free Measure, Quote and Design

We start with a free in-home visit anywhere in the Shire, taking accurate measurements and talking through how you want the space to work. From there we develop the design and material choices, then hand you a fixed, itemised quote covering finishes and hardware. You can review the layout and pricing in full before deciding to go ahead, with no obligation to proceed.

Built in Our Local Workshop

Once the design and quote are approved, your cabinetry is made to measure in our own workshop rather than assembled from off-the-shelf modules. We select materials to suit the room, using moisture-resistant HMR board for wet areas like kitchens, laundries and vanities, and quality soft-close hardware throughout. Building locally means we can tailor every cabinet to the exact space it is going into, so it fits the way older and irregular Shire rooms actually are.

Professional Install by Our Own Team

When your joinery is ready, our own insured team handles the installation, so the people fitting it are accountable for the finished result. We work cleanly and carefully in your home, level and adjust every unit, and check that doors, drawers and soft-close mechanisms run as they should. Before we leave, we walk you through the finished cabinetry so you are happy with how it looks and works.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Everything you need to know about our Kitchen & Stone Benchtops In Sutherland

Do you install Caesarstone or other engineered stone benchtops?

No, and this is a legal and health matter rather than a preference. The manufacture, supply and installation of engineered or reconstituted stone (the Caesarstone-type quartz product) was banned nationally from 1 July 2024, with importation prohibited from 1 January 2025, because cutting it exposes workers to crystalline silica and the risk of silicosis. We do not fabricate, supply, process or install it for any Shire home. Instead we fit compliant benchtops in natural stone, porcelain, timber, laminate or stainless steel.

What benchtop should I choose instead of engineered stone?

The right choice depends on your kitchen, your budget and how you use it. For a premium waterfront kitchen at Sylvania or Gymea Bay, natural stone through a licensed stonemason, or porcelain and sintered stone, both give a hard, handsome surface. For a family renovation at Miranda or Caringbah, quality laminate or solid timber can look excellent at a friendlier price. We talk you through the compliant options at the free measure and quote so the benchtop suits your home.

Can you build a kitchen suited to a coastal or waterfront home?

Yes, coastal and waterfront kitchens are a big part of our work around Cronulla, Port Hacking and the Sylvania Waters canal homes. Where cabinetry meets water we use HMR (moisture-resistant) board, which copes with humidity better than standard board, though no board is waterproof. We also choose corrosion-aware hardware where salt air is a factor. The finish and benchtop are matched to a bright, open coastal look if that is what you want.

How long does a kitchen renovation take?

Lead times run in weeks and depend on the size of the kitchen, the benchtop material and our workshop schedule, since natural stone needs templating and fabrication after the cabinetry is in. A compact Cronulla unit kitchen moves faster than a large open-plan design for a Sylvania waterfront home. We give you a realistic timeframe with the fixed quote after the free measure. Coordinating plumbers, electricians and tilers can also affect the overall schedule.

Do you supply and install the benchtop, or just the cabinets?

We handle the cabinetry ourselves and coordinate the benchtop for you. Natural stone benchtops are templated and fabricated by licensed stonemasons and then installed to the cabinets we build, while porcelain, timber, laminate and stainless options are arranged to suit. This keeps a single point of contact for your Miranda, Kirrawee or Menai kitchen. We never involve engineered stone in any part of the job.

Can you match a new kitchen to the rest of an older Shire home?

Yes, blending new cabinetry into an established home at Jannali, Gymea or Caringbah is routine work. We measure the actual space so cabinetry fits the out-of-square walls common in older Shire housing, and we match finishes and detailing to the era of the home where you want continuity. Timber veneer and 2-pac doors both suit period and modern styles. Our own team installs, scribing the units in neatly.
